Christmas and New Years, stop moving between municipalities: “But in this way Trentino is penalized”, says President Gianmoena

The decree signed by the prime minister establishes that travel between regions, and even between autonomous provinces, is prohibited from December 21 to January 6. For Trentino’s economy it is a bad blow, and we are not talking only about winter sports.
“It is one of those moments in which any decision is made, one runs the risk of being wrong,” he admits. Paride Gianmoena, President of the Consortium of Municipalities. “Those who have to decide struggle to do so because the situation is very complex: difficult from a health point of view and also from an economic point of view. However, I can say one thing: one thing is Lombardy with its 10 million inhabitants, or Veneto with its 8; another is Trentino with its 500,000 ”.

The economic impact of this rule, admits Gianmoena, “is profoundly different depending on the territory it affects.”
But that’s not all: at Christmas, San Esteban and the first of the year, it will also be forbidden to travel from one municipality to another. And here Gianmoena counts to ten (even a little more), then starts again. “I believe that when a rule is promulgated, it must be respected. This is the first thought. The second is related to what I said before: there is common and common. There is Milan, there is Rome, there is Trento, but there are also the small municipalities of our valleys ». And this is another proof of how difficult it is to enact a law.

“The objective is to limit travel: okay, I understand,” agrees the president of the Consortium of Municipalities, “but there are cases that must be evaluated. I hope, for example, that they present the possibility of visiting a parent who lives alone in a neighboring municipality».
But, will the municipalities verify or not that their neighbors do not “cross borders” to go to another municipality? We appeal above all to the responsibility of the citizenry, “says Gianmoena,” and in any case, before the decree enters into force, the meeting of the provincial citizen security commission will be held, which, as always, will be attended by the commissioner, government commissioner and law enforcement representatives.

Certainly, to enforce the rules we are not going to deploy a larger ‘team’: the local police forces are the ones we know.
And last night at the press conference the president of the Province, Maurizio Fugatti, was visibly disappointed. “We have taken note of the government’s decisions,” he said with his head down. «The Regions, together, have prepared an official document in which the lack of discussion of this Dpcm is questioned. The government has not taken our requests into account. Above all, the focus is on travel limitations and “social relationships”, as Fugatti called them, referring to the impossibility of celebrating Christmas as a family if the members live in different municipalities.
