Children lining up to get a swab, it’s chaos: “It’s just the pediatricians’ fault”

TREVISO – Children queuing for hours at Customs to make swabs. The drive-in system designed to speed up the procedure also collapses. And the director of USL 2 Francesco Benazzi does not send them to say: «The situation of minors is shameful – he says as soon as they arrive at the place – It is not correct for children to wait hours in the car. They have the right to be seen. We knew there was an attempt to reach a regional agreement with the pediatricians so that each doctor could quickly clean up their clients and get the answer right away. This did not happen. Therefore, pediatricians do not visit them until they send the children to do a swab. ‘ The fight is already open. But Benazzi, who is a man of action, thinks first of the remedies. How? Doubling the time of the tampon, in Treviso and in the province, and giving absolute priority to minors. However, the accusation against the category of pediatricians continues to be aggravated by the domino effect of the inconveniences that yesterday were under the gaze of all. Even yours. Of the more than 800 swabs done, 70 percent were done on children. Perhaps an inevitable event with the departure of school activities, but certainly, without the hand of the area principals, managing such participation was a difficult task. So much so that when the situation became critical, the organizational machinery of the new buffer point of the old customs office decided to give way to a preferential pediatric lane. With cars with children lined up to the side. And another row reserved for adult users. But in the face of exhausting hours of waiting, the accounts continued to fail. We needed a lot more than the seven healthcare workers in charge of the swab collection, more than the three buckets and the five check-in stations at work yesterday morning from seven to one non-stop. So, by not being able to double the withdrawal points, the schedule is also doubled.
THE REORGANIZATION
«Let’s go to the duplication – Benazzi assures – We will take the schedule from 7 to 19 to Treviso and province from tomorrow (today for those who read ed). Reserving the morning schedule, until noon for minors. Then we will continue until the evening with the other users. In such a way that the children are guaranteed speed of execution. And above all not to make them wait too long. Minors in the car can get sick. Keeping a child locked in a car is not the best, you have to take that into account. As for the reasons that forced the little ones to queue in the car, Benazzi adds to the dose: “As pediatricians have no intention of doing swabs, the hospital has had to reorganize the system. And that’s what we’re doing. Children have longer run times. They need to be better cared for than adults and that is why we are preparing ourselves to meet all their needs.
THE NEW COLLECTION CENTERS
To try to make the endless queues flow, now we change gears not only in the distribution of schedules but also in the offices. As for the Asolo district, the buffer point that is currently in the Castelfranco hospital will be moved in a few days to the old Velo in via Piave in Altivole with a similar schedule in Treviso. For Pieve di Soligo, the sampling point located in the Conegliano district will be moved early next week to the Zoppas Arena. Meanwhile, back in Conegliano, the opening hours double from today until 19:00 at the current location of via Manin. While in Oderzo the old Boario forum has been identified as the future headquarters of Punto tamponi. The time will remain the current one, that is, from 7 to 13, every day, including holidays. “The choice of the new offices, for which we thank the municipal and private administrations for their collaboration -concludes the general director Benazzi- was made, promptly before the flow changes, to make available much larger spaces, located in areas that does not cause problems with ordinary roads. Regarding the schedule, on the other hand, we have decided to arrive, in all the offices except Oderzo, which has less influx, to double the current one, with differentiated access based on age, to provide better service and dilute flows. Faced with an organization of Buffer Points optimally calibrated from the flows registered up to last week, the reopening of schools caused a massive sending of children by pediatricians, which meant an exponential increase in access. Therefore, it was necessary to rethink the times and locations of the Buffer Points. Starting today, therefore, we change: the drive-in system has its own precise functionality, but it must be able to absorb such a large number of patients. Now the square of the circle has been found, pediatricians and less.
