The special tribunal for the January 2015 terrorist attacks against Charlie Hebdo and Hyper Cacher dismissed the terrorism charge for 6 of the 11 defendants present in the courtroom.

All six were tried guilty of conspiracy to commit a crime but without the status of terrorist. Ali Riza Polat was found “guilty of complicity” with the killers, the Kouachi brothers and Amédy Coulibaly.

Thirty years in prison: this is the sentence for Ali Riza Polat, convicted of complicity in 2015 with the killers of Charlie Hebdo and Hyper Cacher. The judges spoke of his “particularly active role in the attacks.”

The court also sentenced 30 years in prison the killer’s companion Hyper Cacher, Amédy Coulibaly, Hayat Boumeddiene, fleeing the days of the massacres and tried in absentia. The sentence reflects the demands of the prosecution, which had emphasized the “important role” of women in preparation for the attacks, before fleeing to Syria before they took place.
