Cashback, or rather extra Christmas cashback: except for very unlikely surprises, those who managed to total the return of 150 euros before December 31, 2002, will see them credited to their checking account in February. All, without cuts, because the amount allocated by the Government to cover the initiative is sufficient to fully satisfy all the “winners”: they are 227 million, while as of December 30 the returns accrued slightly exceed 198 million, which drops to 157 million if only the real ones are considered, that is, those related to those that have carried out at least 10 cashless transactions as required by the “regulation”.
It is unlikely that the update to the last day of the year will make the total “bankruptcy” as feared, remembering that the accessions concern 5.79 million Italians (another 9.5 million registered between ATM cards and credit cards) since December 8, they carried out 49.6 million operations (as mentioned, at least 10 each were needed).
All this without the controversy over this initiative, which could well have welcomed more members (but then would have had to refinance the “cash prize”) and which was not viewed favorably by the European Union, which also encourages Italy to digitize expenses everyday.
Having said that the receipt lottery has been postponed until February to allow for the update of as many cash registers as possible, as of today, January 1, 2020, the race for the annual refund begins (that is, divided into two semesters ) and the super refund.
Refund of money
Green light for those who are already registered (through the Spid or electronic DNI): the operation is similar to “Christmas”. You are entitled, every six months, to a maximum refund of 150 euros, but at least 50 operations will be required. For each one of them accumulates a “treasure” equivalent to 10% of the amount spent up to a maximum of 15 euros. As before, online purchases are not valid.
The strategies
Advice (not trivial and not accepted by all merchants to divide the purchase into several receipts with a maximum value of 150 euros): you are close to the limit but you do not know what to buy (because perhaps you do not need anything in particular) for ¿30 of June or December 31? You can always buy a gift card before the deadline, then you usually have a year to spend the anticipated amount. Be careful not to exceed 150 euros for each gift card, because no more than 15 euros are awarded. Then there are those who bought bought a prepaid card dedicated to online purchases to overcome the prohibition linked to these operations. After all, the foundation of the Government’s initiative is both to oxygenate the purchasing mechanism and, above all, to remove the “black”: it would be really interesting to know, at the end of these initiatives, how many operations really affect the performance of professionals and artisans.
Super refund
Here the refund is really tempting, that is, 1,500 euros per semester, which can be added to the 150 euros of normal cashback: the problem is that the criteria to “win” the prize are not based only on skills. The reimbursement will in fact be up to 100,000 citizens who will carry out the greatest number of operations regardless of the amount. Things to even pay for coffee with an ATM (as is already the case in many countries where the point of sale, the machine to read ATMs and credit cards as well) at the smallest street vendor stall). It is clear that the government and the banking circuits must work to reduce to the maximum, or to cancel completely for small amounts, the commissions that are now paid by retailers.
