Campania, the children’s office of the Region

In the dispersion of votes due to the multiplication of the lists, the only way to ensure a secure consensus, perhaps including the session in the regional council, remains direct “affiliation”. What in the politics of Campania is understood as the passage from father to son. It is valid when the father still has a role and an electoral weight. And it applies to very useful reminiscences even when the parent is no longer there.

With 11,147 votes, Vittoria Lettieri, daughter of the mayor of Acerra Raffaele, enters the business center for the first time. A surprise, which exceeds the forecasts of the police, is that she wins the first place on the list of “De Luca Presidente”, leaving behind record holders such as councilor Lucia Fortini, former regional councilor Carmine Mocerino and Paola Raia. An electoral strategy in the light of the sun: 7,152 votes of the 11 thousand collected only in Acerra where Deluchian’s list rises to 36 percent compared to 12 percent for the Democratic Party. “The entire majority of Lettieri in the council worked to bring votes to the mayor’s daughter,” they say in the city known for its incinerator and its unfortunate location in the so-called triangle of death in Tierra del Fuego. Vittoria knows: «This is my grandfather’s land – he says in an electoral video – I know well how much our land can produce. This is a cauliflower, the agricultural supply chain needs a representative in the region, in the past it was unfairly excluded.

Chosen with civic lists in Acerra, Lettieri was in the past among the ranks of the UDC, linked to the former councilor of the council Caldoro Pasquale Sommese. And Sommese’s son Giuseppe beats them all with 5,554 votes on the Liberal Democratic-Moderate list. He ran through his father’s place, going from center right to center left, with Sommese senior who stopped in this round, thanks to an investigation into public contracts that saw him involved and for which he also ended up arrested.

Among those reconfirmed in the regional council there are other exponents of this “dynastic” democracy: Giampiero Zinzi para la Lega, son of the former president of the province of Caserta, Bruna Fiola del Pd, daughter of the president of the Chamber of Commerce and former councilor Ciro Fiola, Mario Casillo always for the dem, Franco’s son from old DC. And in the memory of the parents who already disappeared years ago, the elections in the council of Giovanni Mensorio for Democratic Center are consumed, almost 10,000 votes, son of Carmine ex DC. And from Annarita Patriarca in Forza Italia, 11 thousand votes, with his father, a former Christian Democrat from the Vesuvius area. Behind Mensorio is Raffaele Pisacane, Agerola’s former deputy father, Michele, chosen from a list related to De Luca.

There are other children, also candidates: Domenico Russo, father former mayor of Sant’Antimo, Marta Schifone, daughter of Luciano before An and Enza Amato del Pd, daughter of Tonino. For them, we could try again. In the region, destiny matters less than a dynasty.
