Campania is terrified by the new rules and contagions of Covid

In the space of half a month, Campania is back in that ‘bubble’ of suspension of daily life that Covid19 represents, due to the risks of contagion, due to information overdose (traditional and online media, texts on social networks, videos, whatsapp , telegram and anything else) from word of mouth information (from the condo doorman to the greengrocer). After a summer in which Covid had become more of a topic of discussion than something tangible, we realized that this was not the case at all. That on the contagion map the red dots continued to light up and this time in Campania more than anywhere else.

You know, you can’t be scared twice in a row by the exact same thing: the scare for us took place last spring. Then we try to make sense of the confinement, the infections, the intensive care, even the dead transported in Army trucks. August has arrived and has tried to sweep away the old looking for a new beginning and today we are almost back to back, aware that a vaccine will be needed. Vincenzo De Luca’s flamethrower is off or in any case it is no longer necessary, not like this. Don’t be scared twice consecutively for exactly the same. Today we know that we can wear masks, wash our hands, keep our distance, but if tampons don’t arrive at the right time, if ASLs don’t do all their work, if hospitals get stuck at the least stress, it’s not all our fault. And not everything depends on us.

The fear is another, it does not reside today in the neighbor who does not have a mask or who talks in the park: Campania is terrified today because it knows that if the wave arrives here as it did in January in Lombardy or Veneto, there will be no possibility of stopping it.: there is a lack of health facilities and a lack of foresight (it did not take long) to cover at least the main failures of the system from May until today. But there was the electoral campaign, we had to show, not complain. It’s like the craziest airplane in the world – the warning light comes on and says, “Okay, panic.”

Panic in Campania is on Dpcm of the premier Giuseppe Conte and the ordinances of Vincenzo De Luca which can close everything or throw red areas. Covid’s new rules could bring what the small economy is trying to restart to its knees. Or maybe not, appealing to our sense of responsibility. The civic sense in Campania, that of the citizens and the institutional, was to be blessed many decades ago: this is demonstrated by the crowded parties, the crowded bars, but also the cursed queues at the post office or taking the metro. , a bus, a funicular.

No one will come to save us: we will necessarily have to slow down again, preventing the Coronavirus (which has no hands or feet but simply allows us to “push” to walk from one person to another) from spreading in clusters and outbreaks throughout Campania, including areas with the highest population density in Europe. Do not be scared twice and consecutively by the same thing. It remains to be seen whether this fear will lead not only to compliance with new and stricter regulations, but to optimization of the problems of Campania’s health system. And not all, no miracle is needed: tampons, medical check-ups, places in intensive care. Everything we already knew in March. And that was not done.
