Call the carabineros for a Christmas toast: “I am 94 years old and the children are far away”

“Hello, my name is Malavolti Fiorenzo, I am 94 years old and I am alone at home, I do not lack anything, I just need a natural person with whom to exchange the Christmas toast. If there was a soldier available, 10 minutes to come see me because I am alone ”.

This is the phone call from an elderly man from Alto Reno Terme that the operator of the Carabinieri Operations Center in Vergato received this morning. Upon hearing the news, the Carabinieri from Alto Reno Terme station went to the house of the old man who was waiting for them. Seeing the military, Fiorenzo was moved and welcomed them with a warm Christmas toast.

The anecdotes that Mr. Malavolti told the two Carabinieri are inevitable, such as that of his father-in-law, Marshal Francesco Sferrazza, who at the time of World War II commanded the Carabinieri Station in Porretta Terme, later destroyed during the bombardment.

The presence of the two soldiers, a talk, a toast and a video call they made to Fiorenzo’s relatives to share those moments of joy with them, changed the destiny of a particular day. A similar event had occurred a few days ago, when the Carabinieri from Alto Reno Terme station came to the rescue of another old man who had been in the cold for days due to an anomaly in the heating system.
