Operation “Farmabusiness”: the emergencies investigated related to the operation of the clan ‘ndrangheta Grande Aracri di Cutro
On November 19, 2020, in the province of Catanzaro, Crotone me Rome, the Carabinieri from the Catanzaro Provincial Command and the Crotone Provincial Command carried out acustody order issued by the GIP of the Court of Catanzaro at the request of this Public Ministry – District Anti-Mafia Directorate – against 19 suspects, responsible, for various reasons, for mafia association, external competition in mafia association, political-mafia electoral exchange, use of money, goods or benefits of illicit origin, illegal possession of weapons, fraudulent transfer of values, attempted extortion, receipt of goods robbed and violence or threats to a public official. The provision has its origin in two convergent investigative activities, developed respectively by the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of Catanzaro and the Investigative Unit of Crotone, directed and coordinated by the Prosecutor’s Office, Dr. Nicola Gratteri, by the Deputy Prosecutor, Dr. Vincenzo Capomolla and by the Substitutes. Prosecutors Paolo Sirleo and Domenico Guarascio.
The emergencies investigated referred tooperation of the clan ‘Ndrangheta Grande Aracri di Cutro (KR) in the area of origin and in the area of Catanzaro, with special reference to business initiatives launched in the latter province through the reuse of clan capital. In particular, the elements gathered in the course of the investigations made it possible to: – define the new structures of the Grande Aracri clan after the operations that affected its main exponents and the leader Grande Aracri Nicolino himself;
– Document the realization and operation by the suspects, through the fictitious preliminary registration of goods and profits, of an important business project aimed at the reuse of the illicit product of the aforementioned gang, by means of the constitution of a company, based in Catanzaro , intended for the wholesale distribution of medicines through a network of points of sale made up of pharmacies and parapharmacies (20 in Calabria, 2 in Puglia and 1 in Emilia Romagna);
– verify the support given to the faction, especially in the implementation phase of the aforementioned project, of an institutional political exponent of the Calabria Region, whose intervention, also reciprocal with the support of the band in the regional elections of November 2014, was decisive in favoring and accelerating the initial bureaucratic process to obtain the necessary authorizations;
– Know the role of professionals and businessmen in carrying out the gang program with regard to the search for economic advantages in the different business sectors of interest.
The investigations made it possible to reconstruct even some specific intimidating episodes, so connected with the realization of the initiative entrepreneurial association, as well as for specific extortion purposes, as well as the availability of numerous weapons.
