Cagliari, the symbol of Molentargius no longer exists: “The salt tower collapsed”

“The tower of salt collapsed yesterday in the silence of the Molentargius pool. It was about 30 meters high and represented the last emblematic bulwark, a symbol of the history of salt because it was erected on top of the great industrial archeology plant but fell to the ground, with its load of several tons ”. To break the news, complete with “before” and “after” photos and with an official statement, is the municipal councilor and president of the security commission Marcello Polastri (Sardegna Forte). The structure was the symbol of the area that later became a park: in the past, salt extraction at Molentargius was in fact a daily practice.

Polastri defines the story as “a suspicious collapse, for many reasons. I will ask the Cagliari city hall to speak about Molentargius, also in terms of industrial archeology and not only about the environment to be protected as it should be, but obviously something is not working ”. And now the associations Gruppo Cavità Cagliaritane Onlus and Explore Sardinia “are clamoring for this to happen, and an investigation in this direction is expected”.
