“But Lazio is still yellow”

Covid Roma, red microzones against variants:

Virologists had predicted this weeks ago: ‘The English variant will become predominant »but Lazio will remain in yellow zone. What changes, in the battle to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and its mutations, is the methodological approach. Not orange zone but if a mini red areas circumscribe, if necessary, the territories where outbreaks or peaks of cases are registered, as in the recent episodes registered in Colleferro and Carpineto that have become “prohibited”. The basic assumption is simple: data on infections are still good, yesterday they decreased. It is clear, however, that among these cases the English variant of the virus is making its way, which in itself is no longer fierce or dangerous, but it is because of the speed of transmission that it entails.

English variant, alarm near Rome: two municipalities (Colleferro and Carpineto) become red zone

THE STRATEGY

“And then – they made it known by the Department of Health headed by Alessio D’Amato – when they register positive for the changed Sars-Cov-2, it will be evaluated, from time to time, whether to circumscribe and decree the red zone for that territory.” Before Colleferro and Carpineto in recent days the Region had decided the red zone for the Municipality of Roccagorga in the province of Latina. “The method continues to be this – continue throughout the Region – if the orange zone is decreed at the national level for the whole country, Lazio will adapt.” But this doesn’t seem to be the predominant line either. Yesterday afternoon the State Regions conference was held and Vice President Daniele Leodori for Lazio participated.

The requests are to leave the colors unchanged but to change the strategy in the vaccination campaign trying to recover more doses but collectively and not by Region. Also because only with an increase in vaccination coverage, as virologists explain, can the spread of the virus and its variants be contained.

BULLETIN

Meanwhile, in Lazio the cases drop. Yesterday, against 31,000 swabs performed (the molecular swabs performed were 12,000, 202 more than the previous day), 921 new positives emerged, 69 less in 24 hours. Deaths (32 in total), hospitalizations and intensive care also fell. Both go from 1,925 to 1,883 and from 231 to 228. In Rome, the new cases fall below 400 and stop at 379 positives compared to 515 the previous day.
