In the year of the pandemic that closed Italy at home for months, which almost eliminated social relations or even simply deprived of a handshake to say goodbye, the province of Bologna is crowned as the city with the best quality of life. thanks to a jump of 13 seats compared to last year. The Emilian capital is first in terms of “wealth and consumption”, fourth in “business and work”, second in “environment and services”, third in “culture and leisure”. But does it still make sense to talk about quality of life? The “Sole 24 Ore” asked this, which each year elaborates the ranking and concluded that it makes sense in the face of a restart. According to the economic newspaper, the health emergency has not erased the historical differences between the Italian territories but, on the contrary, they will return and affect the relaunch of Belpaese. For this reason, the search criteria have been modified compared to the past and 25 out of 90 indicators have been included to assess the large-scale consequences of the virus.

The classification

Returning to the ranking, now in its 31st edition, behind the province of Bologna are those of Bolzano and Trento. Milan, which had won the two previous editions and slipped 11 places due to the collapse of GDP per capita according to 2020 estimates, is very bad, but also the new indicator on the average available habitable surface (with an average of 51 square meters per family). On the shields are the cities of Emilia Romagna with five out of nine among the top twenty: Parma is eighth, Forlì Cesena 14, Modena 15 and Reggio Emilia 17. Apart from these exploits, it is above all the North that is penalized by the large-scale effects of the virus. The Lombard provinces have a negative sign, worsening compared to last year, with the exception of Sondrio and Mantova. The crisis is also affecting the most tourist destinations, such as Venice (33, 24 positions down), Rome (32, -14), Florence (27, -12) or Naples (92, -11). Spas are also affected by the shortage of tourists: the provinces of Puglia and Sardinia (with the exception of Cagliari and Foggia), Rimini (36, losing 19 positions compared to last year), Salerno, Siracusa and Ragusa are getting worse. In contrast only Liguria, all improving, where even Genoa (19) celebrates with a good performance the reopening of the viaduct over the Polcevera after the collapse of the Morandi bridge, recovering 26 positions. Other medium-sized provinces such as Verona (4, +3 places), Udine (6, +10 which obtains its best performance in Justice and Security) and Cagliari (9, +11, queen of the Demography and health category). If the North falls, the South does not rise in the rankings even though brilliant ideas like the South’s work hold up in the end. This year the Crotone ranking closes, preceded by Caltanissetta, last year.
