“This story starts from the end, from a liberating cry, if you want angry, from the little boy, who allowed his parents and me to breathe a sigh of relief after 15 really demanding minutes.” These are the words of Daniele Celin, a 41-year-old nurse from the Maggiore hospital in Bologna and under 118 years of age, who used to summarize the result of a remote rescue intervention with which on the night of December 23, he connected on video With a medical application, he assisted a pair of parents in resuscitating their two-year-old son who was drowning.
The story, told by Resto del Carlino, took place on the eve of the day before Christmas in Bologna. A young couple, Stefania and Michele, are cooking a homemade pizza. The two-year-old son asks for a piece of mozzarella but, shortly after swallowing it, he stops breathing. The willingness of both parents to call 118 immediately was decisive, but also the professionalism of Nurse Daniele, a remote “angel” who managed to establish a decisive relationship of trust with the couple.
“We needed a heart massage – said the nurse – so I began to give the first indications were given to the lady but without being able to see her movements and everything was much more difficult. So Daniele decided to propose the use of ‘FlagMii’, a medical application used for about a year by Emilia-Romagna and Piedmont, which allows, through the smartphone, to improve the time and quality of the intervention of the operator 118 who can control it all, in live video, sitting from the operations center.
Daniele was thus able to “guide” the intervention from a distance: “The unconscious child was revived by his parents based on the instructions I gave him.” And above all, he added, meanwhile, “the colleagues at the other end of the plant were in charge of sending the vehicles, ambulance and car. It is a chain that has never stopped.” The little one is fine now.
