What is Berlusconi suffering?
Bilateral pneumonia is not an element of severity. Indeed, it is framed within the framework of viral pneumonia and Covid pneumonia that have this clinical form, almost always bilateral ”. This is explained by Professor Luca Richeldi pulmonologist, director of the department of pulmonology at the Gemelli Polyclinic and member of the Scientific Technical Committee of the Ministry of Health. Viral pneumonia involves the involvement of the interstitial tissue, which is found between one alveolus and the other in the deepest part of the lungs. That it is early, as in the case of the former prime minister, means that he is on debut, therefore at a very early stage. The general symptoms are fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, fatigue, general malaise. But they are not always all present at the same time. The diagnosis can be made by radiology but also with auscultation and blood tests. The cure to date is respiratory support with oxygen, minus the use of antivirals such as the much-discussed remdesivir. The bilateral pneumonia diagnosed in Silvio Berlusconi as a consequence of the disease linked to the Covid, however, does not seem to worry Professor Zangrillo, head of San Raffaele and doctor of the former prime minister who speaks of a “mild lung involvement” and not even among the experts and particularly among pulmonologists. “I am convinced that it was a preventive hospitalization and that there will be a positive evolution,” says Professor Luca Richeldi. Even taking into account the above clinical picture, age does not appear to be a risk factor in itself. “He is – says Richeldi – a monitored patient who leads a healthy life and does not smoke.”
