Juventus has reached an agreement with Luis Suárez. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, if he managed to free himself from Barcelona, the Uruguayan forward would sign a three-year contract worth around € 10 million net per season with the bianconeri. Which, thanks to tax relief, would spend 15 million gross per year.
In this summer market, Juve has already sold the two extra-community seats with Arthur (Brazil) and McKennie (United States). Suárez does not (yet) have a Community passport, but he can bring the Italian. Given the Friulian origins of his wife, Sofia Balbi, an Italian citizen like his three children. Luis never applied because he never needed it, just as he would never have asked for Spanish citizenship, which would also be owed to any Uruguayan with a work contract of at least two years in Spain. For the Suárez League to be a Community for all purposes by virtue of his wife’s passport, on the other hand, to play in Italy it would take one more step: an exam at the Italian Consulate in Barcelona (Covid does not facilitate speed-dating) or the simplest application for Spanish citizenship. Nothing complex that can blow up a well-established business, just a few days of extra patience.
