VERONA – Two missing persons in the Adige river in the Veronese area, searches underway since tonight, including with firefighters’ drones and diving equipment.
It was a night of intense work for the Verona firefighters who, in addition to the numerous interventions underway for the bad weather who hit the provincial territory, have committed two different operations to rescue people who ended up in the Adige river.

The firefighters team assisted two policemen who had tried to help, while one of the aquatic rescuers jumped into the water reaching and managing to stop the fallen, despite the strong current, for about ten minutes. However, one has emerged fight, which testifies to the perhaps voluntary gesture of the man jumping into the water and therefore the attempt to free himself from the grip. Several times the firefighter was dragged to the bottom, until in excitement the safety rope that held the fire department operating from the ground was released. At this point the person managed to break free and was seen disappear into the floodwaters of the river. The operator, now free from ties, was also carried away by the current and recovered around 2.15 by another team of firefighters in Ponte Pérez in Zevio, after having traveled about ten miles at the mercy of the water and overcome, thanks to the equipment supplied and training in river techniques, two artificial dams. The firefighter was treated for mild hypothermia and this morning he was discharged from Borgo Trento hospital.

Meanwhile, around 11.30 pm, a second person fell, this also seems to be a voluntary gesture, on the Adige river from the San Pancrazio bridge, at a point where the rapids and the current did not allow recovery despite the immediate intervention of several firefighting teams that also operated aboard inflatable boats.
