Destroyed due to bad weather theold bourbon bow in stone on the promenade of Naples. The arch collapsed in the afternoon due to the storms these days. It had been abandoned for years and was (as you can see in the photo below) on a rock. It had remained to this day, but the force of the wind caused it to almost completely collapse in the water. Exactly one year ago, the Regional Councilor for the Greens, Francesco Emilio Borrelli, had called for an urgent intervention from the administration: “A swift intervention is necessary to secure the ancient Bourbon arch under the Lungomare di Napoli near Piazza Vittoria. This is the last visible testimony of the old Bourbon quay. Carelessness has caused the foundations of the arch to collapse, which, at this moment, is standing only by chance. The situation continues to deteriorate. A storm would suffice for this. Collapse. Naples City Hall, for now, it has limited itself to delimiting the area to ensure the safety of passersby on the road above, but the institutions must take measures to save a testimony of great historical value. ” The bow had recently been secured with innocent tubes, but that was not enough to save it.

The old arch dates from 1700 and was born as a landing place for fishermen, the so-called ‘Luciani’, that is, the inhabitants of the nearby town of Santa Lucía. During the 1800s it was transformed into a sewer terminal and was renamed O Chiavicone de los Neapolitans. Unfortunately, on the afternoon of today, January 2, it almost completely collapsed into the sea.
