Bad weather at night in Tuscany, storm and wind damage – Chronicle

Florence, September 25, 2020 – TheOrange alert it had been announced and in fact during the night there were very important rains in the interior of Tuscany, especially between the provinces of Grosseto, Siena and Arezzo, but also on the coast. Precisely for fear of meteorological phenomena some administrations had already decided on Thursday afternoon to close schools.

From Thursday 22 at 10 am on Friday there were places where it rained at very high levels: the 12-hour record will Vallombrosa, with the beauty of 103 millimeters of water (which means 103 liters for every square meter of land in 12 hours), then Anqua (Siena) with 92, Legoli (Pisa) 86, Monteroni d’Arbia (Siena) me Greve in Chianti (Florence) with 85 mm, Montemignaio (Arezzo) 84 and Certaldo (Florence) 82.

VALDELSA – Bad weather problems occurred overnight in Florentine Valdelsa. In particular, in Certaldo many streets were flooded and an underpass was closed. During the night, civil protection and volunteers took action to empty basements and flood warehouses with water pumps. There are also problems on Zambra regional highway 429, in the municipality of Barberino and Tavarnelle, where the road suffered heavy flooding. TO Castelfiorentino minor annoyances but there were problems with public lighting in some parts of the town, including at the Granaiolo roundabout in the new 429, which remained off for a few hours.

AREZZO – About forty interventions by firefighters ad Arezzo and province, primarily for downed trees and unsafe shingles. The most affected areas were Arezzo, San Leo, Quarata, Valdarno and Valtiberina. Fortunately, there were no people involved in all of these interventions.

A Cortona a large pine tree collapsed in the night a few inches from the passenger compartment of a van in transit: the driver was unharmed.

SIENA – In Senese interventions in Casole d’Elsa, where the wind blew an iron gazebo on the roof of a house, while earlier, at night, in Castelnuovo Berardenga Lightning struck the roof of a building: eight people were evacuated. One of the inhabitants states: “I saw death in the face” (VIDEO.

GROSSETO – The first damages had already been registered on Thursday afternoon: from floods to Capalbio complete with rail traffic disruption to the whirlwind all’Argentario.
