Back to school in two phases, one until January 15 and the next

The return to the school norm, even for second grade secondary schools, throughout the national territory, is calibrated in two phases.

Return phase until January 15

The Unified Conference of State, Regions, Autonomous Provinces and Metropolitan Cities convened by the Regional Minister, Francesco Boccia, decreed the return to school, from January 7 to 15 of the same month, for 50% of the second grade secondary schools. The other 50% of high school, technical or professional institute students will follow the lessons from home with the integrated digital teaching methodology. All other school orders will be reset with 100% of the students present.

Before the start of the Christmas holidays, as soon as the agreement was found between the Government and the unified conference convened by Minister Boccia, the Minister of Education Lucía Azzolina was especially enthusiastic, so much so that she declared that returning to school on January 7 would not it is only, as Premier Conte puts it, “a safety anchor” but above all it is “a lifeline”.

Phase after January 15

After January 15, the forecasts are, but to have them officially we should wait for a new DPCM, to increase the presence of students in school to 75%, leaving home to continue in DDI, according to shifts organized by individual schools, 25 % of the students. This second phase would tend to gradually return all students to attendance, the ambition would be a generalized return of 100% of the students present.

Prefectures, USR and ATP

The return plans were organized by the Prefectures that involved the regional and territorial school offices, excluding the unions and school directors from these tables.

These plans must solve transport problems, gatherings outside schools, monitoring of positive subjects detected, staggered entry and exit schedules from school and everything that implies the safety of a regular return to school.

There is no shortage of perplexities

There are many, despite the fact that the vaccination plan has also started in Italy, who think that this return to school could be the reason for a sharp increase in the number of infections, hospitalizations in intensive care and deaths.

In this reopening of schools there are those who see improvisation and high risks also of hindering the vaccination plan that is starting these days.

Among the main concerns is the lack of vaccination of school operators that will begin in January. School principals, teachers, and ATA staff will have to wait until May or even June before getting vaccinated, so the risk of infection in the school remains very high.
