The Minister of Education, Lucía Azzolina, spoke on Sky TG 24, interviewed by Ilaria Iacoviello, about school news.
“There are still Covid-19 infections. The data is there, we collect it and entrust it to the Istituto Superiore di Sanità because experts work there who have to interpret it, week by week. I read what was written in a newspaper, but I have to defend myself, I have to defend the Ministry. You cannot shoot random numbers. The school did not affect the second wave, this is now clear. Anyone who claims otherwise has not provided the data to the specialists or is acting in bad faith. The data is there. The Ministry of Education has collected them although it is not their duty. In any case, we have done additional work with internal monitoring to have a double check. And thank God, because in some cases, where the local health authorities were suffering, the data we had was the only one. The infections are still there, you have to be very careful, so that this Christmas does not become another summer ”.
Banks on wheels, Azzolina: “2.4 million delivered to schools. The talk passes, the facts remain “
On the reopening of the school: “In transport, for a long time I have asked for territorial measures, not so much regional. When it comes to transportation, big cities and small provinces cannot be compared. In small provinces they would be ready, while in metropolitan cities the flow of people is greater and additional work will be needed. It is true that we have managed to weaken the contagion curve but we need caution. Our students will be returning to school on January 7 with extra precautions as they are working on the transportation side. For some time I have been asking for territorial measures in transport because the large metropolitan cities cannot be compared with the provinces, having asked the prefects for help I think is the best solution. In metropolitan cities, the flow of people who move is greater and a higher job will be needed ”.
So: “The follow-up struggled in September, now it is recovering thanks to the flexing of the curve and we are asking for a fast track for quick tests and shock absorbers for the reopening. We need a fast track for rapid tests and swabs, if there is a positive in the classroom, school leaders should have almost immediate answers regarding the possibility of rapid tests in the classroom. When this was done, the protocols were found to work and most of the students in the classroom were not infected. ”
Still: “The country has not had the necessary consideration of the school over the years. It was brutally cut. Today there is a different route, with a different consciousness. Even keeping the first cycle open was not easy because in Italy there is a cultural problem that the school is not as important as the production activities ”.
On wheeled benches: “With 2 million and 400 thousand jobs we have compensated for a delay of 20 years. Well, they have been bought, we have finally renewed everything. They were obsolete desks, our students had the right to newer desks ”.
