Tragedy in the mountains. The death toll from an avalanche that broke over Maso Corto in the Senales valley was two. The police, the mountain rescue and the Pelikan rescue helicopter intervened at the scene. The alarm was raised by witnesses, who saw how the avalanche hit a group of mountain skiers. The victims would be a man and a woman, husband and wife: they had decided to spend the first Sunday of 2021 embarking on a quiet mountain skiing journey through the snowy peaks of the house but an avalanche broke their lives, overwhelming and killing them. The tragedy took place in one of the most remote valleys of South Tyrol, already sadly at the center of mountain chronicles on other occasions.
Big avalanche
The large avalanche stopped at about 2,200 meters while they were just below the top of the Klosterkreuz mountain above the town of Certosa di Senales. Witnesses who saw the avalanche explode sounded the alarm of the rescue car that went into action at 1:40 p.m. The mass of snow fell off at an altitude of about 2,200 meters and fell on the group of hikers. These days’ bulletin indicated a high risk of avalanches (3 on a scale of 5) and recommended the utmost caution.

Almost exactly one year ago, on December 28, 2019, an avalanche affected skiers on the Teufelsegg piste in Val Senales, causing the deaths of a 25-year-old woman and her seven-year-old daughter and another seven-year-old girl. all from Germany.
