A 23-year-old boy died in the avalanche that occurred in Cortina, in the Tofana di Rotzes area, on the Giussani refuge. The boy, who was skiing with his 27-year-old brother, was washed downstream for more than 200 meters. There would be no other victims.

As reconstructed, the Belluno ski mountaineer descending from Rotzes with his brother, instead of taking the classic return from the shoulder, stayed to the right of Spigolo Zero and took a channel leading behind Punta Marietta. However, in the middle of the descent, an avalanche occurred that dragged him more than 200 meters. The brother, who remained taller, immediately raised the alarm and the Pieve di Cadore Suem helicopter headed for the scene, having brought up personnel from the Alpine Rescue and the Financial Guard of Cortina. Once the body was located about 2,550 meters above sea level, the rescuers were landed with a 70-meter winch. The body was recovered and transported downstream, before being accompanied to Cortina’s death cell. The air ambulance also approached the young man’s brother, who was unhurt.
