Avalanche in Marmolada, shelter destroyed – Trentino AA / S

A large avalanche broke off the Trentino side of the Marmolada, destroying the Pian dei Fiacconila refuge and the chairlift mountain station, which had been closed for a year.
Apparently there are no victims or injuries: the men of the mountain rescue, in fact, have already carried out a remediation, excluding that there are people involved. The avalanche, with a headline of a few hundred meters, broke between Punta Rocca and Punta Penia and devastated the building and the systems connected to it. The refuge, which has been closed in recent weeks and is located 2,626 meters above sea level upstream of the chairlift, was completely centered and largely buried by snow. The detachment, which has a very wide front, almost 600 meters long, happened yesterday and was warned by the team of an overflight helicopter that, again late in the afternoon yesterday, raised the alarm. The Alta Val di Fassa Alpine Rescue immediately dispatched a team to verify that there were no cars in the valley parking lot and thus avoid the possible presence of hikers. Having ascertained that there were no cars and that the police had no disappearance report, the team returned and left at dawn this morning to check the situation at the scene, confirming that no persons appear to be involved.
