In Austria, in view of the Christmas holidays, the quarantine obligation is activated for those arriving from abroad. It will no longer be enough, as up to now, to have done a negative swab in the last 72 hours. There will be exceptions for cross-border travelers and business trips, but there will be no “New Year’s Eve in Prague” or “visits to relatives in the Balkans,” stressed Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz. According to Kurz, a third of the second wave infections were “imported.”

On December 24 the ski lifts will reopen, but only for residents, while the hotels will remain closed until January 6. This was announced by the government at a press conference. After the full closure on Monday, the compulsory schools will reopen, as well as the senior year of high school. Stores will also reopen, while at 8:00 p.m. the curfew will begin until 6:00 a.m. A maximum of ten diners has been set for the Christmas holidays.
