ATA and COVID Substitute Teachers – They are short substitutes, let’s see how sick period is handled.

Dear Editorial Team: I recently started as a CS with a covid contract. During the signing of the contract, the secretary reminded me that in case of prolonged illness the contract is terminated and the accumulated score expires. What is said to be true? (especially in relation to punctuation) What is the relevant legislation in the case of contracting with a so-called Covid contract? Thank you

by Giovanni Calandrino – The contracts called “covid” in accordance with article 321 bis, letter b, of the coordinated text of Legislative Decree 34 of 2020, are short-term substitutes or fixed-term contracts stipulated by the school director. In the event of illness, these personnel have the right, within the limits of the duration of the contract itself, to retain the position to a period not exceeding 30 days per year, paid at 50%.

In summary, for short substitutes or temporary substitutes, in case of illness, the job will be kept up to a maximum of 30 days a year, with a salary of 50%. Therefore, for sick leave for a period of more than 30 days, the employment contract will be automatically terminated.

The service accrued until the eventual dismissal is fully taxable for ranking purposes.

Of course, we are talking about a “normal” disease, not related to Covid. In fact, the Covid illness period equates to hospitalization and does not trigger dismissal behavior.

“Covid” and ATA teacher accessories: you can get sick for up to 30 days, paid at 50%. Covid excluded
