“Between next summer and autumn all Italians who wish will be vaccinated” is the promise of emergency commissioner Domenico Arcuri, who today at a press conference gave some details about the plan for the vaccination campaign against Covid. “December 27 will be European vaccination day,” he continued, “citizens will begin to get vaccinated all at the same time. It will be a symbolic day, we will start with health personnel, staff and guests at the RSA ”.

Regarding the obligatory nature of the vaccine for some categories, the commissioner specified: “We have no idea how many will join the vaccination campaign for health personnel. The first data we receive leave us comforted. It seems to us that the affiliation is currently more meeting expectations. I have never said that vaccination is mandatory. I say that in Italy it is free but not mandatory. We will have to do everything possible to inform, communicate and persuade as many Italians as possible to get vaccinated, but not until the point of making it coercive. “

“The 202 million doses of vaccine for Italy will no longer arrive, as expected, in 15 months but in 21 months because Sanofi, which was supposed to give us 40 million doses in the third and fourth quarters of 2021, delayed. They will arrive in the second and third quarters of 2022 -, Arcuri specified –
The possibility of accepting requests from medical and nursing staff has been open for 18 hours. We had requested up to 3,000 doctors and 12,000 nurses, so far we have received 11,282 requests: 6,381 are doctors, 1,377 nurses, 224 health aides and 3,300 doctors, nurses and health aides ”.

The commissioner then commented on the contagion curve: “In a month and a half, thanks to containment measures, we have gone from a growth in contagion of 66% to a decrease of 22%. In the coming weeks we should not think just to spend a Merry Christmas, but a good and responsible Christmas in which we will have to take care of ourselves and our loved ones. The infection curve is frozen, but not yet flattened. It would be difficult to start the largest mass vaccination campaign in history in a condition of resurgence of the contagion curve in a feared third wave ”.
