The weather of Christmas and Saint Stephen, arctic air over Italy with rain, snow and cold

EVERYTHING CHANGES BETWEEN CHRISTMAS AND SANTO STEFANO: the anticyclonic stasis these last days will literally be deranged by a pulse of arctic sea air that descends from the North Sea and that will cross Italy between the days of Christmas and Saint Stephen. As always happens when quite cold currents enter the Mediterranean, the thermal contrast with the soft waters of our basin will develop a low pressure vortex that will bring bad weather with rains, thunderstorms and snowfall that given the sharp drop in temperatures could fall at low altitudes.

CHRISTMAS IN BAD WEATHER AND COLD FROM THE NORTH: The Arctic Sea Air Momentum will make its debut over Italy on Christmas morning, climbing the Alps and heading, accompanied by strong Bora winds from part of the north, especially Triveneto and Emilia Romagna. Here too heavy rains and rains are expected with snow level gradually decreasing from 900-1000m in the morning to 200-400m in the afternoon. At the same time, a second front will be organized in the lower-middle Tyrrhenian that will gradually involve south-central Italy and Sardinia with showers and thunderstorms that at night can also be strong in Sicily, Campania and Calabria. These two fronts will launch the vortex formation. Temperatures will drop significantly in the north, in Sardinia and at night also in the central regions and Campania. Elsewhere, the decline is still expected. Beware of winds that will strengthen significantly from the north quadrants to the north and southwest to the south-central regions.

SANTO STEFANO WITH BAD WEATHER AND COLD IN THE SOUTH CENTER: the low pressure vortex evolves through the Tyrrhenian Sea, carrying the entire disturbed area with it. The climate will improve in the North with the latest phenomena and snow to low altitude in Romagna while it will be unstable or disturbed in the South Central with rains, storms and snowfall to mountainous altitudes in the center and at night also in the south. Temperatures will drop further in the north with widespread frosts at night, will drop again in the center and south, reaching locally below average. The winds will remain strong in cyclonic rotation.
