Experiences with Covid Hospitals of the Milan Fair and of Civitanova Marche, which welcomed a small number of patients and was closed within a few weeks of its inauguration, and the controversy for the elusive consulting for the Sicily Region. The President of the Umbria Region, Donatella Tesei, announced that he had hired, although “Free”, the former head of Civil Protection, Guido Bertolaso, come consultant to face the Covid emergency.
The news was spread during the video-press conference, which Bertolaso also attended, on the containment plan and emergency interventions for the use of the hospital network: “A guarantee for emergencies and will also help us in link between health and civil protection“Explained the governor introducing it. Bertolaso will help the workgroup of the Region, established to face the pandemic, also in the activation of a new safeguard plan: “At the moment it is not necessary but in the worst case we must be prepared,” continued Tesei.
For his part, Bertolaso said he wanted to thank “those who imagined that my role could be useful here to face a difficult, if not dramatic, moment in Umbria”, with the daily data that after weeks show a decrease in the last day although minimal, from 354 to 353, of Covid patients admitted to hospitals, 48 of which in intensive care (yesterday 46).
But the old Civil Protection summit immediately wanted to underline the need to get down to work quickly to prevent extreme situations: “You don’t have to waste any more time because in an emergency, time is the most important factor. We have already identified a series of new operations to be implemented with the safeguards plan and only if necessary. We don’t have summer ahead of us, but winter, and preparing well by imagining worst-case scenarios is wise. From a first reflection I can say that this region can be considered a kind of miniature of our country. A plan was made with concrete and not unreasonable numbers and here we work with care and precision, also imagining future scenarios to prevent the difficulties that we may face. The teamwork between health and civil protection that is taking place here in Umbria is the winning solution to address the situation ”.
The objective illustrated during the press conference is to be able to explode 127 intensive therapy (currently 104 already usable) and 74 sub-intensive, as well as an endowment of 576 Covid beds, in accordance with the plan to contain the pandemic in Umbria illustrated by the health counselor, Luca coletto, and the CEO, Claudio Dario.
