ROME. Documents and flyers of the Red Brigades. But also bullets, ammunition and military clothing, worn out by time and humidity. This is the discovery of the Digos policemen, reported exclusively by Corriere della Sera, who have reached a clandestine deposit in a forest in Poggio Catino, a few kilometers from Rieti, in Lazio. As it was learned, the documents found by the police date from the period before 1977, before the kidnapping and murder of the then leader of the Christian Democracy, Aldo Moro.
The material collected recalls the “years of lead”, those of terrorism. Digos agents worked for two days (the report dates back to Thursday) before finding the war material. The findings were located inside two asbestos-covered wells, in as many clearings in the middle of the forest, twenty meters from each other. Inside, paper documents signed with the five-pointed Red Brigade star symbol were closed in the circle. The documents, having passed many years, are in some parts illegible and the work of the Scientific Police will be essential to try to separate them and see if something can still be deciphered between newspaper clippings and other publications. Several boxes containing hundreds of rusty and rusted long gun ammunition, and covers sealed with parcel tape, were also found. These are bullets for pistols and rifles, caliber 7.65 and 308, preserved a little better thanks to the greater care of those who had them stored.
Now the work of the forensic will be essential, who after having analyzed the material will be able to date the findings. This will lead the police, through work backwards, to return to the Red Brigades that once created and filled the hiding places.
