At the beginning of 2021 the flights of the new course

The creation of the newco Alitalia is just the beginning of a journey that will lead to the relaunch of the company. The decree will take 30 days to reach Parliament; then the new industrial plan will be presented, which will last for five years.

The company and the government will also be busy proving to the European Commission that the new company has nothing in common with the old Alitalia. Therefore, the slogan is discontinuity.

Brussels will have to rule shortly on the 1,300 million aid received from 2017 by the company that was then commissioned by the then Gentiloni government. The Commission could classify this aid as state aid, illegitimate and repayable. But the burden could fall on the old company, which will become a kind of bad Company. Instead, the new company will end up with a budget of 3 billion, allocated by the government in the relaunch decree.

If the process goes smoothly, the new airline’s planes will take off in early 2021.

Alitalia, one month for the new plan: “Discontinuity and development”

The focus is on North America and Japan

The new company would start with around 90 aircraft and 6,500 employees. Generally speaking, the plan should focus on long-haul routes, particularly those to the United States, which are the most profitable, Lazzerini said at a House hearing last month. The long term means privileging the North American market, which is underserved and extremely profitable. Further expansion is needed. South America must be preserved, we must think about Asia and China while Japan is doing very well ”. Integration with the FS will also be strengthened.

Then there is the issue of alliances, which, Lazzerini explained, “is certainly a fundamental point of the industrial plan. The world of airlines is a world of alliances. It is difficult to stay alone, there are few companies that are left alone.” It’s hard to think of being isolated in a global world. The important thing is to enter into an alliance head on “because” alms have no positive consequences for those who receive alms. ”

The CGIL: hurry up

Well, the signing of the newco’s exit decree and the appointments of the board of directors that also express the competences of the sector but remains concerned about the complexity of the situation and about the 7 thousand workers in cigs ”. Thus, the national secretary of FILT CGIL, Fabrizio Cuscito. “It will take several months for the company to be operational and meanwhile resources continue to be burned, flights are canceled and the company is practically stopped.”

“We are already late and the situation, with each passing day, becomes desperate – reports the national director of Filt Cgil – and if we do not intervene promptly, the rescue operation could be late with the risk of job loss for the employees of Alitalia and related industries “.

“A permanent forum for discussion is necessary between the ministries concerned and the unions, to be aware of the complexity of all the interventions necessary for the departure and safety of the national airline,” explains Cuscito. “On the contrary, it could be too late to save the company and 11,000 jobs.”

Here is Salvatore Pellecchia (Fit-Cisl): “It was time for the constitutional decree of the newco of alitalia to arrive. From this moment on a new era begins and we must not make mistakes with the elaboration of an ambitious industrial plan, which we hope to know as soon as possible “.
