A part of France, including the Paris region, will be blocked for at least one month.

Since Friday, 16 departments of France (101 in total, similar to our provinces), in which more than 21 of the 68 million inhabitants of the country live, have entered a blockade that will last at least four weeks. The new restrictions were announced by French Prime Minister Jean Castex, following a worrying increase in infections and a decrease in the number of beds available in intensive care units.

8 of the 16 blocked apartments are those that make up the entire Ile-de-France region, that is, the Paris region where more than 12 million people live. About ten days ago, the health authorities of the region ordered all hospitals, public and private, to cancel 40 percent of the operations scheduled to have more beds available. For now, the region has exceeded its ICU admission capacity and has been forced to transfer some patients to hospitals in other parts of France.

In addition to the 8 departments of Ile-de-France, the 5 departments of the Haute-Haute-France region, the Alpes Maritimes department (in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region) and the Eure and Seine- Departments maritime (both in Normandy).
