(ANSA-AFP) – WARSAW, MARCH 14 – Former Polish President Lech Walesa, an icon of the struggle against the communist regime in the 1980s, published a worried video message today announcing his hospitalization, fearing that he could not survive. “I’m going to the hospital. Whatever comes next, only time will tell. So since I don’t know when we’ll see each other again or if we’ll see each other again, I’d like to say that I have done my best to serve the nation well. Until next time, if it is my destiny, it will allow us to stay a little longer in this land. Otherwise, pray for me, “said the 77-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner and former president of Poland in the video posted on Facebook.
His secretary, Marek Kaczmar, explained that the charismatic former leader of the Solidarnosc trade union movement is hospitalized for the planned replacement of his pacemaker battery, but that “there are complications.”
“The operation is scheduled for tomorrow – he said – unless today’s tests show that it is necessary to intervene immediately.” (ANSA-AFP).
