Måneskin won the Sanremo Festival 2021, with the song Shut up and alright. In second place were classified Fedez and Francesca Michielin with Call me by my name, while Ermal Meta finished third with his A million things to tell you.
The Måneskin group is made up of Damiano David, Victoria De Angelis, Thomas Raggi and Ethan Torchio. He became quite well known after participating in X Factor in 2017 – finished second, but still landed a contract with Sony Music. The following year, the group released their first album (Moonlight), while in 2019 it came out with The dance of life, an album that had considerable success mainly thanks to the singles Back home me I will die like a king.
De Angelis and Raggi had already started collaborating during high school, the group would expand in the following years, including David and finally Torchio. The group’s name derives from “moonlight” in Danish, De Angelis’s native language. Having won the San Remo Festival, Måneskin will represent Italy at the next Eurofestival Song Festival.
Willie Peyote won the “Mia Martini” Critics Award with Mai dire mai (locally), while the “Lucio Dalla” award given by the press room went to Colapesce and Dimartino for Very light music. The winner of the New Proposals section was instead Gaudiano with Gunpowder.
