The main news of the day
• One of the most debated topics of the new DPCM approved this Tuesday by the government is the possible closure of schools. The decree establishes that in the red zones, those with the highest epidemiological risk, all schools of all levels are closed, including nursery schools. Regarding the yellow and orange areas, the decree distinguishes the situations in which the schools have to closed, as in red areas, and those in which can Be closed, by decision of the regional presidents. The distinction is not very clear, but in this article we have arranged the main novelties of the decree.
• According to the latest estimate by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, in a sample of 1,296 sequenced swabs, 54 percent of coronavirus infections in Italy are caused by the “English variant” (B.1.1.7). Among the regions that have sequenced the most swabs, and therefore where the estimate is most reliable, there are some interesting data: the English variant in Lombardy was detected in 64.3 percent of the 213 sequenced swabs, in Campania in 59.3 percent of the 86 sequenced swabs and in Lazio in 34 percent of the 169 sequenced swabs.
