The 43-year-old man allegedly strangled his son and then took his own life. He left a long letter explaining the insane gesture. The child’s grandfather discovers the tragedy
GODEGO CASTLE. Tragedy in Castello di Godego, in the town square of Boves 7. Two dead bodies were found in an apartment in the building overlooking the square: they are a father and a two-year-old son.
The father, 43, is Egidio Battaglia, an employee of a company in Galliera. The boy’s name was Massimiliano and he was two years old.
According to investigators, it is a suicide homicide: the 43-year-old man first strangled his son and then took his own life. He left a long letter in the living room explaining the insane gesture. According to the investigative sources, the reasons are related to the father’s concern for the child’s health conditions. It does not seem that there were differences within the couple.
The baby’s mother was away from home at work at the time.
To raise the alarm, as reconstructed by the carabinieri, it was the boy’s grandfather, who was waiting for his son and grandson for lunch. Not seeing them arrive, he headed home. He rang the bell several times without getting an answer. So he took a ladder and went up to the first floor of the building, where the apartment is located.
From the window he saw the bodies of his son and grandson lying on the ground. He immediately called the carabinieri.
Once there, the military managed to enter and found the two bodies without life. The prosecutor on duty from the Treviso Prosecutor’s Office, Mara De Donà, also arrived.
As soon as she learned of the tragedy, the baby’s mother fell ill and was taken to the hospital.
Egidio Battaglia was chief technician at Pavan di Galliera, where he was hired in 1998.
