Trauma from a pandemic, one in three Italians and more women are at risk
The pandemic leaves deep traces on the psyche, with the risk of compromising well-being and mental health in the long term, up to 30 months. One in three Italians is at risk and the most exposed are women. This is the panorama that emerges from a systematic review by the Italian Society of Psychiatry (Sip) of published studies on the topic of Covid and mental health, one year after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Several studies conducted in Italy, Spain, China, India, Ireland, and Israel have evaluated the presence of PTSD symptoms in the general population and, overall, an incidence of 30 percent was found.
Not only the patients recovered from the virus, the health workers and the families of the victims will be affected, but all the people who are even indirectly suffering the blows of a year from Coronavirus. “No one will be himself like before.
