Some of the leaders speak of the world on the contrary, of parts invested in the League. It is not a question of relationships or roles, but now it is Salvini who wants the party via Bellerio within the government and Giorgetti more doubtful. These are not political calculations, but the number two of the League repeats to more than one interlocutor that the risk is that it is a mistake. Meanwhile, as the other political forces will do their best to keep the League out of any decision on the measures, “they don’t want us.” The aversion to Salvini weighs heavily. “I don’t want Draghi to call everyone but us,” the fear, for example, of a former minister.

The perplexities are, therefore, linked to the perimeter, to the fact that in the CDM the representatives of the Carroccio may in some way be ghettos. Then the relationship with FdI: it can no longer hold this sovereign derby. Nothing personal, of course. But Salvini has bet on Forza Italia, for the possibility of making an iron pact with the Knight, so obviously if the electoral law is not touched, then we will all return together. Salvini loves Draghi because he embraced Giorgetti’s initial project, that of accrediting the League as a ruling force, following the requests of the electorate of the North, of leading businessmen, responding to the post-war call of the Head of State. And looking at Draghi as a friendly side, even when it comes time to vote for the next Head of State (for the former Minister of the Interior it will be “Mr. BCE”).
ONE YEAR AHEAD
For the Northern League the executive will last one year, no more. But to make sure the secretary can be the next prime minister, the Northern League wants Salvini to sit on the CDM. Not Giorgetti. Salvini wouldn’t want lumbard number two either. Not because – or at least that is how a former minister explains it – you don’t trust him but because with Giorgetti as minister the thesis of a good League and a bad League would prevail. The narration of a Salvini in the sweatshirt and not in the good dress of Palazzo Chigi would continue, while the leader wanted to personally lead the process of the “new” League. But the Democratic Party is for the no to Salvini, it certainly does not consider it useful to repeat the times of the historic compromise and a constituent government, with De Gasperi and Togliatti at the same table.
THE INFLECTION POINT
In the Via Bellerio match they will insist until the end, with the thesis that the moderate change was made by Salvini, not others. For this reason, no vetoes or bets have been placed. And if there is no secretary for the League, two ministers will be chosen from a shortlist of names that includes Bongiorno, Candiani, Garavaglia and Centinaio. The departments of Agriculture, Development, Regional Affairs are tempting, considering that Fedriga should become president of the Conference of Regions in a few weeks.
That said, Giorgetti and Salvini perform their role in public. Nobody talks about ministries (Salvini did it yesterday, but to promote that of Disability). The first says that those who are not in the executive will take responsibility, the second that there is still the risk that someone wants to overturn the table. Draghi is expected. But in the hope that the former ECB number one may have the courage to include the secretary on the team as well. What if that doesn’t happen? “It would be a problem for us,” says one senator. “No, we will continue anyway,” explains a deputy.
But that would eventually be another game and the orientation is that the League would be the same.
