He was taking a class test when he asked permission to leave the classroom and go to the bathroom. What happened a few, very few moments later, is yet to be determined. The girl, a two-year-old student, once she got to the bathroom, looked out the window. Only the intervention of a security guard prevented the young woman from jumping into the void: he saw her leaning out of the window while finishing a control shift. As soon as he realized what was about to happen, he ran to her, squeezing her from behind and pulling her away from the window. At that moment he let out a scream that started the rescue machine. The suicide attempt shocked the school, the Torquato Tasso High School in the historic center of the capital: the request for help in the elegant building on via Sicilia was triggered on the morning of January 26. The first to come to the rescue of the student were, together with the supervisor, some teachers. Then the girl was transported to the hospital.
Suicide attempt at school, reconstruction
Thanks to the timely intervention of the assistant, the student did not suffer any injuries. However, she is still in the hospital, interned in the neuropsychiatry department assisted by doctors and psychologists in charge of accompanying the girl and her family through a difficult path. In fact, it remains to clarify what took him one step away from the void. From what has emerged so far, the teenager had no academic performance problems. In fact, he was among the brightest in the subject the class was testing on. Classmates and teachers, still shocked by the dramatic gesture, reported that that morning it seemed “serene and peaceful.” She had no idea then, but something happened that pushed her in front of that window. To the friend who hugged her and held her hand until the ambulance arrived, she said nothing. Not a word: “He was sobbing – he remembers his partner – he was inconsolable, he seemed absent.”
The next few days will be decisive in deciding how to proceed and much will depend on the doctors’ report, on what comes out of the interviews with the hospital psychologists. Only then will information be sent to the police. At the moment, the matter is strictly confidential, the school and the family are in contact. Teachers these days have long listened to the student’s closest friends to reconstruct the girl’s last weeks. But the narrative is still full of dark spots. Even according to the most intimate friends, the young woman did not show any particular discomfort.
While, two years after his death, the turning point came with the suicide of the 17-year-old. The student, from a EUR high school, who after months of humiliation by his math teacher, had committed suicide in his garage.
