The contortions of the parties to the appeal of Sergio Mattarella, collected yesterday morning by Mario Draghi, have just begun. The perimeter of the majority is the unresolved problem and that agitates the dream of Zingaretti who tries by all means to keep the parties that supported the Conte government by his side, grillini at the head. The dem’s goal is to guarantee Draghi the numbers without widening too far to the right, to be able to impose a package, albeit a small one, of ministers.
The democrat hopes that Forza Italia’s accession to the Draghi executive will reach that majority that Ursula was pursuing for the Count, but the arrival of Matteo Salvini’s League is now taken for granted and not only because the former governor had a good relationship with Giancarlo Giorgetti for years, but because Il Carroccio has a voice in the Recovery Plan.

And it is with the arrival of the Lega in majority, not with the abstention promised by Giorgia Meloni and FdI, that the desire of dem and grillini to compose a political executive could collapse and open the way to that totally technical executive that he is. a little ‘the hope of the prime minister in charge. Draghi is seeking as large a majority as possible and he certainly won’t be the one setting the bar. Nor does it exclude the presence of politicians. But if the majority fence includes, in addition to Forza Italia also the League, voting for a government with ministers from the Northern League could be indigestible and convince the dem to prefer technicians or at least discolor the area to which they belong so much . as possible.
The 5S also ask for a political executive and therefore the presence of ministers of the Movement. The aim is to keep Luigi Di Maio and Alfonso Bonafede inside, while the participation of Giuseppe Conte seems excluded. The Prime Minister remains entrenched in Palazzo Chigi with the intention, with his staff, to deny the accusations and the tissue papers from everywhere.
Conte met with his possible successor for almost an hour. At the end of the interview, no greeting or good luck leaked from Palazzo Chigi. Confidentiality or, rather, Conte’s hope that -as the rumors claim- Draghi will not be able to appear at the Quirinale with a certain majority and that therefore Mattarella will be forced to call elections shortly, leaving the lawyer at Palazzo Chigi. Salvini last night, speaking with La7, was especially soft with the prime minister in charge, defined as an “absolutely important person” to whom “we are not going to put conditions.”
On the other hand, the parties, although defeated by not finding a common thread to ensure a government for the country, are convinced that Draghi will remain in Palazzo Chigi for the time strictly necessary to allow the country to emerge from the pandemic. and present a recovery plan more dignified than the last two versions. With the task done, Draghi is ready to step aside. Unless the parties decide to indicate him as Mattarella’s successor in the Quirinale.
While waiting for meetings with Draghi, from which it will be difficult to immediately understand in which direction he intends to move, the parties raise a smokescreen. On the M5S, some big names argue that it takes a political executive to turn the big five-star groups yes. Enough motivation if it was not managed by the same people who wanted to join or remain in government.
Similar reasoning can be found in the Nazarene, where confirmation is sought from the ministers Franceschini, Guerini, Gualtieri and Boccia. While waiting for a possible vote on the Rousseau platform, the government wing of the Movement is also divided and the old political dichotomy between Conte and Di Maio reappears, paradoxically played out in that European precinct designed by the Democratic Party. Even if, however, it will be difficult for the dem to say no to Draghi by justifying it with the desire of not wanting to combine his votes with Salvini’s.
