Thousands of American flags have been placed on the National Mall in Washington to symbolize Americans who will not be able to attend the ceremony.
Joe Biden will be sworn in as the 46th President of the United States tomorrow, January 20, in Washington. Inauguration ceremonies for new presidents are typically large public events, attended by hundreds of thousands of people from across the United States, but this year will be very different than usual: partly due to restrictions related to the pandemic. of coronavirus. and in part because of additional precautionary measures due to the Jan.6 attack on Congress by supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump. Therefore, on the National Mall, the long avenue that runs from the Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial, an installation of almost 200,000 American flags has been created to symbolize Americans who will not be able to attend the ceremony. Last night the flags were lit for 46 seconds, in homage to the 46th president of the United States.
