The controversy does not subside after the hospital’s choice to cancel the reservations of the doctors specializing in the anti-Coronavirus vaccine. In fact, after the clarification of the administrative director of Torrette Antonello Maraldo, the answer came from the specialist doctors of Ancona who, after a meeting of about 2 hours, expressed their disappointment with a press release.
“We express our bitterness at the words of Antonello Maraldo, Administrative Director of the Hospital Universitario de Hospitales de Ancona, about the cancellation of the Sars-Cov-2 vaccination reservations for the fellows. Indeed, once again the opportunity to recognize the fundamental role of physicians in health care training within Aouor Ancona was missed. We are aware of the problems related to organizing a vaccination campaign in a short time. However, it is at least incomprehensible that physicians involved in direct assistance to Covid patients or in administering vaccines have been indiscriminately downgraded in vaccination priorities, even after employees not involved in assistance. The aforementioned circular, with which the administrative director justifies the choice made by the company, in fact, mentions as a priority category to be vaccinated health and social health workers who have a greater risk of exposure to infection by Sars-Cov-2 and to transmit it to susceptible and vulnerable patients. No distinction is made for the category of doctors in specialized training, since they represent, in fact, an integral part of the personnel of the national health system. Without their support, many hospitals, including the directors of Torrette and Salesi, would not be able to guarantee the numerous healthcare activities (clinics, ward activities, operating rooms), especially in an emergency period like the one we are going through ”.
Jacopo’s experience: “they vaccinated me while they canceled me”
Therefore, according to the doctors in training at the Torrette and Salesi district hospital, there would have been a wrong interpretation of the rule because, as the president of the Doric order of doctors explained yesterday, no distinction can be made between doctors, if they are students major or primary. “Aware of this, other companies have promptly planned the administration of vaccines also to doctors in training, without contractual discrimination, but based on an assessment of the risk of exposure.” Yes, because the same criteria of the Ancona leaders were used in Monza and in a Hospital of the Capital, but in the rest of Italy these differences did not exist, as the health unions, deployed in defense of apprentices, also testify.
“It seems paradoxical that even the fellows who made themselves available voluntarily and free of charge for the administration of vaccines to all company personnel, have seen their reservations canceled. – The note continues – Ours does not want to be a sterile controversy for not being among the first to receive the vaccine, but rather an expression of disappointment at the lack of a priority criterion based on risk stratification. It is not surprising that the issue immediately had the full support of the Polytechnic University of Marche, the directors of the specialization schools and the hospital staff. The hope is that the company, in light of the critical problems that have arisen, will review the vaccine administration priorities considering risk stratification and include doctors in specialized training as health personnel in all aspects ”.
Otherwise? It is too early to say, also because in the next few hours meetings are expected between the representatives of the scholarship holders and the directors of the specialization schools, where it will be decided whether and how to move if the assembled hospitals do not take a step back. And it is not excluded, because this is discussed between the departments, Strike.
