Owner Ivan Favalli’s apologies were not enough to prevent further action. To the high fines imposed on the 126 participants in the New Year’s Eve party accompanied by songs and dances without masks was added the suspension of the activity of the luxury resort Splendido Bay in Padenghe sul Garda.
The closure, notified on Saturday morning by the Local Police of Valtenesi, will begin on Sunday, December 3, as announced by the owner himself with a post on Facebook: “We inform all customers that the police have ordered the closure of the hotel to Starting tomorrow, giving clients time to organize themselves to return to their homes, we inevitably cancel reservations for the following days. The prefecture will have the last word on the case and may extend the suspension of the activity (the law provides for up to 30 days of closure).
Images of the party had circulated around the web, outraging all of Italy: the lunch had lasted past sunset, complete with DJs and vocalists to entertain the guests who, between one course and another and hundreds of toasts, were unleashed in the makeshift dance floor between the tables. All without even wearing a mask.
In the last hours the Codacons and the Garda Community had invoked the intervention of the Judicial Power, while the owner of the structure had justified himself in the following way: “For me it was a question of survival (in a year we lost 6 months of work ) Lunch at the hotel was legally granted to me I want to clarify it and dinner was not served except in the room. With much regret I realize that I have offended all the people who in some way suffered from Covid, I have been driving it local for 30 years I seriously hope that this fact does not frustrate the sacrifices of a lifetime.
