VENICE – Two thirty-year-old Venetians identified and arrested, the accusation is heavy for them: they are allegedly the perpetrators of a violent robbery of a tourist, complete with a gun pointed to the face and kicked in the face. A terrifying scene, also captured by the cameras. The event dates back to the past Carnival, but the perpetrators were identified after long and careful investigations.
On the morning of today, January 2, 2021, the soldiers of the Nucleo Natanti dei Carabinieri of Venice carried out a precautionary custody order, issued by the Preliminary Investigative Judge of the Court of Venice, against two Venetians in their thirties, with numerous antecedents of Police, for the crime of attempted armed robbery, against a foreign tourist visiting the capital of March.
Robbery at Carnival
The events date back to February 2020 when, in the middle of Carnival, during one of the nights dedicated to the celebrations, the two robbed a tourist, with an English accent, near the Rialto. Passing through an isolated and dark alley, the two noticed the victim alone and sitting on the ground, intending to use his smartphone and not realizing what was about to happen to him. The attackers, at first approached the man, turning around him and, later, noticing the absence of passersby and covering part of his face with hoods, they approached him again and pointed weapons at him so that they would give him his phone mobile.
Gun to the face
The unfortunate man, scared, however, tried to react to the attack, unfortunately unleashing the violent reaction of one of the robbers who, hitting him with two kicks in the face, approached the tourist again, pointing the gun at close range. “Scarrellandola” to your address. Fortunately, a few seconds later, the action was interrupted by the arrival of a group of passers-by, when they saw that the two criminals escaped through the neighboring streets, however they could take possession of the cell phone. Then the foreign tourist asked for help from the employees of a nearby business, to whom he tried to explain what happened.

After the event, the carabinieri immediately began an articulated investigation activity that, thanks to the statements of the witnesses, the analysis of the telephone records and the viewing of several videos from the area’s closed circuit television cameras – including Managed by the Venice City Council, they made it possible to identify those responsible for this serious crime. For one of the two men, by order of the magistrate, the prison doors were opened, while the second ended up under house arrest. Both, despite their young age, are not new to episodes of extreme violence, all of which took place in the city.

There would be one last piece left to complete the puzzle: the identification of the victim. In fact, the Carabinieri, who carried out the investigations on their own initiative and on time, could not, despite the various attempts also made with the different trade associations, identify the poor, probably foreign tourist.
