The highest figure both in absolute terms and in percentage. It is that of the positive swabs registered on Wednesday, December 30 at the Drive In of the Mediterranean Fair of Palermo. Since the beginning of the activity (last October 30), there had never been a percentage higher than 11%, a figure higher than New Year’s Eve with 294 positives, equivalent to 14.66% of the 2,005 antigenic swabs made by the operators sanitary.

Yesterday the figure of December 30 was partially confirmed with 198 positives out of 1,791 swabs (11.06%), thus raising to 492 people who – as required by the health protocol for the definitive verification – had to undergo molecular swabbing at the Fair of the Mediterranean in the last two days of the year.

“The last days of 2020 have certainly seen an increase in the number of tampons at the Fair, but unfortunately they have also seen an increase in the percentage of positives – stressed the commissioner for the Covid emergency in Palermo, Renato Costa – we are very concerned. Probably, it is the consequence of the gatherings that took place in the period before the holidays or the first days of December, because we always see the effect of what happens in the previous 15 days. We hope that the subsequent measures have been useful in order not to increase this figure, also because another worrying element is that the hospitals are beginning to be busy again.

They are certainly not under pressure, but there is a greater presence than in recent days. That is why – Costa concluded – it becomes more and more urgent, more and more urgent and more and more important to maintain the use of masks, respect social distancing and hand hygiene, always remembering to ventilate the places where you stay the most. of two people. With these simple precautions we could eradicate this disease, also taking into account that the vaccine is about to be administered to a large part of the population ”.

A total of 69,733 swabs and 4,613 positives were made from October 30 to December 31 at the Drive In of the Palermo Mediterranean Fair where the activity continues uninterrupted even on holidays. After Christmas and San Esteban, even today, New Year’s Day, the service is guaranteed from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (doors close at 6 p.m. and service is guaranteed to cars lined up inside the Fair until exhaustion).
