Red Zone January 1, 2021. Visiting Friends and Family: Bans (and Fines), Here's What You Can Do

Italy in January 1, 2021 it’s all in Red zone, with emergency shutdown until Epiphany, except on the orange “break” of January 4. As at Christmas, the New Year will also be under special supervision. The goal is to avoid dangerous meetings.

The restrictions

The restrictions will be those already established in the Christmas week, from December 24 to 27, with the prohibition of traveling except to visit friends or family, in a maximum of two people (and those under 14 or disabled) and only once a day. Always paying attention to the absolute prohibition of traveling during curfew hours, that is, after 10 pm, if it is not for proven work, health or emergency needs. Violators risk receiving fines that can range between 400 and 1,000 euros.

Ski, slide reopening of slopes

Meanwhile, looking ahead to January 7 – and therefore a cautious recovery – there are several activities that ask for clarity about the future. The hypothesis of the reopening of the ski resorts seems to have vanished, which, on the recommendation of the President of the Conference of the Regions, Stefano Bonaccini, could be postponed until 18 January. A decision that, in all probability, will only be made in the first ten days of the new year. However, an appeal has been made to the government from Valle d’Aosta to maintain attention in the high mountainous areas. Some regions, then, are thinking of changing the date of the winter sales, which traditionally take place in the first days of the year, in consideration of the last days of the red zone.
