Vienna New Year’s Concert: history, place and curiosities
The first performance of the Wiener Philharmoniker dedicated to the music of the Strauss family dates back to December 31, 1939. This is the first New Year’s concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, born at a dramatic moment in Austrian history, a year after its annexation to Nazi Germany.
The idea for the concert came from the director of the Philharmonic Clemens krauss: with his direction the following concert was also performed, theJanuary 1, 1941. World stardom comes in the late 1950s, when the first television shootings were made.
