Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, on Facebook, wishes a Happy New Year to all Italians.

“We have had a difficult year. Very hard. We have faced, and continue to face, a very tough test. Many of us have lost our dearest affections. An entire generation that rebuilt Italy after the war and contributed to the “economic miracle” has been decimated. We have known the pain of losing friends, of people who worked with us every day, side by side, we were called to make sacrifices that we did not even imagine. We have experienced suffering and limitations of freedoms that we might not have conceived even in the abstract.. In the new year we enter with a heavy luggage, a wound that we will not be able to heal. But all this pain, this suffering is not enough to extinguish the light of hope. We have lived moments of great unity. We have experienced firsthand the spirit of solidarity of many people who have remained fearless on the front lines. We have seen the sense of responsibility of many citizens who have made their contribution to the common good simply by respecting the rules.. We all hold hands, while remaining distant. We will not forget 2020. But now is the time to reclaim our lives, to work to reinvent a better society. The new year must be the year of redemption. Each one will do their part and we will all work together to recover and relaunch Italy ”.

Happy 2021 to all Italians.
