Covid: Bolsonaro defies the confinement and goes to the beach in Sao Paulo – Ultima Ora

(ANSA) – SAN PAOLO, DECEMBER 31 – Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro contested the closure decreed by local authorities by walking without a mask on a beach on the coast of Sao Paulo, the state most affected by the coronavirus pandemic in the country, with a 68% increase in infections in December.

Taking advantage of the sunny morning, yesterday the president went to Praia Grande, where he hugged and took selfies with his supporters, including the elderly and children.

“People are here, on the beach. Someone will say there was a crowd: I take a risk with what I’m doing, but I still feel comforted,” said Bolsonaro, who has always opposed the restrictive measures decided by governors and mayors to prevent the spread of the disease.

The president then argued with the governor of São Paulo, Joao Doria, about his decision to close access to the state’s beaches, except to go on vacation to Miami, from where he hurriedly returned after criticism.

“For me, there is no problem if you go to Miami, but São Paulo cannot be closed,” added Bolsonaro, who arrived at the beach from a nearby military base aboard a jet ski. (HANDLE).
