(ANSA) – ROME, DECEMBER 31 – The satisfaction of having reached an agreement on Brexit with Brussels did not last long for Boris Johnson. A few hours after the British Prime Minister’s agreement was signed, his father, Stanley, announced publicly that he had applied for French citizenship and thus maintain ties with the European Union.

Johnson senior, who voted to Remain in the 2016 European divorce referendum, told RTL radio that his mother was born in France to a French mother. “Basically I am too and that makes me very happy,” said the 80-year-old in perfect French. “I will always be European. You cannot tell the British: you are no longer European. Having links with the European Union is important,” added Boris’ father. (HANDLE).
