Today Italy returns to the red zone

Starting today, December 31, Italy returns to the red zone and will remain there until Sunday January 3 included. The days of the red zone are those with the most restrictive measures among those decided by the government with the decree law of December 18, which still allows some freedom of movement even on these days thanks to some exceptions. Only on Monday, January 4, the country will return to the orange zone, while Tuesday, January 5 and Wednesday, January 6 will be the last two days of the national red zone provided for by the decree law.

The restrictions and rules to contain coronavirus infections during the Christmas and New Year holidays, in fact, began on December 24 and will end on January 6, and are the result of an overlap of Prime Minister’s Decree and statutory decrees , which has caused a certain generalization. confusion. As of January 7, the Prime Minister’s Decree (Prime Minister’s Decree) of December 3, with the division of the regions into three colors (yellow, orange and red), will re-enter into force.

The main difference between the days in which Italy is in the red zone and those in which it is in the orange zone is that in the first case all movements are prohibited, both within and outside the municipality itself. Except for work, health or necessity, and except for those justified by the “visitation exemption”, to go to another home, respecting certain limits. In all these cases, self-certification is required. On January 4, under the orange zone regime, you will be able to move freely within your municipality.

The “visitation exemption” states that you can travel once a day, from 5 to 22, to visit a single home (of anyone, friends or family) that must be in your region. This exemption applies to both red and orange days. On this journey there may be a maximum of two, possibly accompanied by minors under 14, disabled or not self-sufficient without restriction of number.

Even on red days, the general rules are still in place like the 10 a.m. to 5 a.m. curfew, which on New Year’s morning runs until 7 a.m. You cannot move between regions, except for reasons of work, health, necessity, but you can always, therefore, also between regions, return to your residence, domicile or home. The latter is considered the place where you live “with a certain continuity and stability”: therefore, people who usually live in the same house can get together.

Going to the stores is a valid justification for moving: those that sell food and basic necessities, supermarkets, pharmacies and parapharmacies, kiosks, tobacconists, laundries, barbers and hairdressers will remain open.

It is also allowed to always arrive at second homes if they are in the region itself, but only for a family unit, and only from 5 to 22. Sports and physical activity can always be done, individually, outdoors and respecting distances. Masses will be celebrated. The bars and restaurants are closed to consumption in the place, but they can carry out take away food service, always allowed until 10 at night, while home deliveries have no time limit.
