The Fiumicino storm caused various damage to the promenade and the lighthouse area
The wave of bad weather that has gripped Italy in recent hours has also caused some storms that have devastated the coasts. During the night, the seafront in Naples suffered extensive damage due to the waves that washed over the road, and the same happened in Fiumicino, where the sea brought mountains of debris to the coast.

At the old Fiumicino lighthouse, according to Ansa, the first morning lights revealed a disconcerting scene: trash on the cliffs, uprooted roads, flooded sections. The wind was blowing at 90 kilometers per hour, pushing the waves hard against the shore.
The marina area and the moored boats were undamaged, but the same cannot be said for the access road. Donato Gemito, owner of the marina, told Ansa: “The garbage is scattered everywhere and the road to get to the lighthouse and the depot is rootless in various places, and now you can hardly get there by car ”.
“The fact is that, as the swells follow one another, they weaken the defensive cliffs, rebuilt a few years ago, and which are no longer maintained. The sea overflows, damages and dumps the considerable amounts of garbage in the Tiber ”, Gemito emphasized.
The witness
A local operator related his experience during the night, during the storm: “Tonight at 4 o’clock the situation was Very bad, the defensive intervention on the cliffs promised in autumn by the Region and not yet taken, I do not think it is enough: a broader and more structural intervention is needed ”.
Along the boardwalk, the storm also damaged cabins, palisades, structures and terraces at many establishments in Fiumicino, Focene and Fregene.
